Films

India is a film mad country in which movies are big business.

But, we believe that a film is about a good story, great casting, and differenciated marketing that helps it stand out in the clutter. It is this belief that came into play whenwe decided on the feature film in Marathi Jhing Chik Jhing – a story of hope.

Set against thebackdrop of agrarian poverty, debt and farmer suicide in rural Maharashtra – the story is of a boy called Shyam whowants to grow up to become someone. He is a naughty, curious child who is good at studies, loves playing and day dreaming about what he will be when he grows up. His family owns a small plot of land on which they grow cotton. The family is in debt to the local money lender – they owe him Rs.10,000 (approx US$ 200). The family is unable to repay the loan, and it seems likely that they will lose their land. The parents contemplate suicide along with the children. But, Shyam is made of sterner stuff than that. He wants to live and grow up and be someone. He decides that the only way out is for him to earn the money.
